Mr. Garza is a Founding Partner of CCRG. He specializes in patent and commercial litigation. Mr. Garza is a registered patent attorney who has served as lead counsel in patent-litigation matters in Texas, Delaware, Michigan, and California. He has managed jurisdictional, venue, and Markman disputes, helped secure a jury verdict in the Eastern District of Texas, and prevailed on an appeal at the Federal Circuit. Mr. Garza provides efficient, cost-effective defenses for companies facing meritless patent-infringement claims.

Mr. Garza has represented businesses asserting and defending against claims involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, securities statutes, and breach of contract. After founding the firm, Mr. Garza completed two commercial-arbitration proceedings where his clients asserted breach-of-contract and fiduciary-duty claims. Mr. Garza was also recently appointed to try a pro bono, excessive-force civil-rights case in the Northern District of Texas.

Mr. Garza studied chemical engineering at Texas A&M University and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School. After law school, Mr. Garza served as a law clerk to Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn of the Northern District of Texas. His article, Collateral Estoppel and Claim Construction Orders, appeared in the Spring 2005 edition of the Columbia Science & Technology Law Review. Before starting CCRG, Mr. Garza worked as a trial attorney for the Department of Justice in the Civil Division.

PATENT LITIGATION

CLOUDFLARE

Mr. Garza successfully defended Cloudflare in a matter brought by Blackbird Technologies, a patent-assertion entity, relating to content-delivery networks in the District of Delaware.

HULU

Mr. Garza defended Hulu, LLC, in an matter brought by a patent assertion entity in the Eastern District of Texas.

SAMSUNG

Mr. Garza defended Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., in matters brought by patent-assertion entities in the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.

IRWIN SEATING CO.

Mr. Garza defended Irwin Seating Company in litigation related to a stadium-seating patent in the Western District of Michigan.

HALLIBURTON

In RealTimeZone, Inc. v. Halliburton, Mr. Garza represented Halliburton, the defendant, in a patent matter involving upstream-petroleum technology in the District of New Mexico.

ANASCAPE

Mr. Garza represented plaintiff Anascape Ltd. in a patent matter against Microsoft and Nintendo involving video-game-controller technology. At trial, the jury returned a verdict in Anascape’s favor against Nintendo; Microsoft settled before trial.

UNITED ACCESS

Mr. Garza represented United Access in a patent-infringement appeal involving ADSL technology. The Federal Circuit reversed the judgment entered against United Access.

COMMERCIAL LITIGATION

FORMER NFL PLAYERS

Mr. Garza represented a class of former NFL players seeking contract damages against the NFL Players Association. At trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Garza’s clients.

METROPCS

In MetroPCS Communications v. Merrill Lynch, Mr. Garza represented plaintiff MetroPCS in a matter involving auction-rate securities in Texas state court.

FLIPSWAP, INC.

Mr. Garza represented Flipswap, Inc. in a contract dispute. The matter proceeded to arbitration in New York.

MERCADO V. DALLAS COUNTY

Mr. Garza brought Fourth Amendment claims against Dallas County for failure to provide pretrial release to a group of detainees.
